There is a line of thought in business that says “a business is a direct reflection of the business owner”. The implication is that if everything is going well in the business and that is a direct reflection of the owner, then the same is true of business problems and challenges. If the business owner has a $60,000 mind he will have a $60,000 dollar business. If he has a one million dollar mind the business begins to look very different.

 

So how can we leverage ourselves to affect our businesses? It is my belief that YOU and YOUR commitment to personal growth create the greatest effect.

Anyone can talk about growth in sales, and about increased profit and asset accumulation, but none of these successes happen on their own and are unlikely to occur without personal growth at the helm. Your growth as an individual leads to any success you manifest. "YOU are your major success strategy".

Yes that’s right “YOU are your major success strategy” YOU, YOU, YOU. And that’s great because this creates an abundance of opportunity for you to influence how your business develops rather than being rigidly reliant on others ‘getting it right’. So remind yourself constantly! Place a reminder in the office, on the fridge, next to the bed and remember the enormous affect YOU can have on the success of your business.

Now I acknowledge that there are many others factors that can contribute to having a better business future. If you work with extremely reliable suppliers, that would help. If your businesses offer great sales training, had stronger lines of communication and products that you could be proud of – yes these would help.

 

Oh and, of course, no natural disasters, that will help. And if interest rates don’t increase, that will help. And if the housing market doesn’t crash, along with the US dollar, that will help. However, I ask you to remember this, these and many more - all put together - play a minor role in your better future.

YOU are the major success strategy. Lock it in! This is a really key point to remember. The major key is YOU. How does one develop an above average income? Simple. Become an above average person. Invest in and work on YOU. Set aside an annual educational fund for yourself and ensure you spend it.

Develop an above average attitude and an above average smile, with average body language. Many people want to be successful and yet choose not to nurture the basic relationship building blocks.

Develop an above average sense of excitement. Develop an above average dedication. Develop an above average interest in other people. To have more, become more. Remember; work harder on yourself than you do on your business. This will serve you and your business well.
